Barley Hall is an ideal venue for intimate parties for those wanting to celebrate with special friends, and family members. Celebrate in style by booking the Great Hall, Parlour and Gallery, or both.

The Great Hall

Parties held in this remarkable high-beamed room, which is dressed with hand painted hangings and features a decorative medieval tiled floor will certainly be one that you and guests remember for years to come.

  • Welcome Drinks 50 guests maximum
  • Canapé Reception 50 guests maximum
  • Buffet Reception 50 guests maximum
  • Seated Meal 45 Guests maximum

The Parlour

Celebrations within the Parlour will enjoy an exceptional atmosphere lit by glistening candles highlighting the rich red wall hangings in this superb room. The Parlour was once the room from which the Lord Mayor of York, Alderman William Snawsell resided over his business affairs and the furnishings recreated here reflect the high status of this important citizen of York in the 15th century.

  • Welcome Drinks 30 guests maximum
  • Canapé Reception 30 guests maximum
  • Seated Meal 20 guests maximum

The Gallery

When booking the Parlour, you can give yourself additional capacity by using the Gallery at no extra charge. The Gallery features windows that overlook the Great Hall and is located next to the Parlour on the first floor.

Although we do not recommend hosting a disco at Barley Hall there are many other entertainment options to choose from that will add to the atmosphere for your party. Recorded music can be played in any of the rooms or you could hire live musicians for your event. We can recommend a range of musicians from string quartets to medieval players.
