All of our education sessions for 7 to 11 year olds are delivered by a costumed interpreter. All are designed to support a range of subjects across the National Curriculum.

All sessions are devised for classes up to a maximum of 30 children.

Meet The Family (Standard Tour)

Pupils will discover how a family and their servants lived at Barley Hall in the late fifteenth century, where they ate, slept and worked, and have an insight into lives through role-play. Comparisons will be made between modern homes and homes of this period. Materials used to build the Barley Hall will also be discussed in this session.

Clothes and Costume (Workshop)

This workshop allows pupils to investigate period clothes and textiles from the Tudor period with particular reference to status.

Some pupils will have the opportunity to dress up in replica costume.

Arms and Armour (Workshop)

Meet a soldier from the later 15th century. Discover what soldiers wore and handle replica objects.

Tudor Toys and Games (Workshop)

This workshop allows pupils to find out what games and toys Tudor children played with and to try them themselves. It is led by a costumed host.

The emphasis of this session is to allow pupils the opportunity to play traditional games from the Tudor period and for them to think why changes have occured.

Tudor Medicine (Workshop)

A chance to learn about Tudor medicine and how illness and ailments were fought hundreds of years ago. As well as discovering some of the Tudor's most gruesome diseases and grisly cures.

Meet The Barber Surgeon (Workshop)

Discover the methods used by the Barbour Surgeon. Find out how and why surgery was performed without anaesthetic.
