Stonegate
Voices is a new exciting project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund within
their Your Heritage programme.
As
part of the project, York Archaeological Trust have published a book which
records the memories of over 70 individuals who lived and worked in the
Stonegate area, including Coffee Yard, in the 1900s. The book is the
culmination of work by oral historian Van Wilson, who has previously produced
two earlier books for the Trust, including Rich in All but Money which recalled
the memories of people who lived in Hungate,
York. This new publication includes a special
foreword by Dame Judi Dench whose parents are remembered by individuals who
lived and went to church in the area.

TV historian Dan Snow, can be downloaded here, and includes excerpts of
interviews undertaken by Van Wilson with people who lived and worked in the
area.
